Panama ports move 16.4% more TEUs during the first quarter

During the first quarter, Panama’s ports as a whole moved 16.4% more 20-foot containers compared to the same period in 2023.

In total, the terminals of the Panamanian National Port System transferred 2,299,067 TEUs between January and February, which contrasts with the 1,975,4771 registered in the same segment of the calendar last year.

The largest number of units corresponds to full containers, which totaled 1,625,610 in the first three months of the year, while empty containers reached 673,457 units.

By ports, the one that led the flow of containers – always measured in TEUs – was Manzanillo International Terminal, which transferred 695,287 units. Panama Ports Company Balboa followed, channeling 612,398 20-foot containers.

In third place was Colon Container Terminal, which moved 396,062 TEU, while PSA Panama International Terminal added 313,961 units during the first three months of the year.

For its part, Panama Ports Company Cristóbal processed 258,899 20-foot standard measurement units and, finally, Bocas Fruit totaled 22,460 TEU in the period.
