New Minister for Canal Affairs holds first meeting with his work team

Engineer José Ramón Icaza Clement, as Minister for Canal Affairs, held the first meeting with his Panama Canal work team.

As head of the Ministry for Canal Affairs, Engineer Icaza will preside over the Board of Directors whose main task will be to set the policies for the operation, improvement and modernization of the Canal, as well as supervise its administration in accordance with the Political Constitution and the Organic Law of the Panama Canal Authority, so that the waterway operates in a safe, continuous, efficient and profitable manner.

Minister Icaza is a civil engineer who graduated from the Santa María La Antigua University (USMA). He has a master’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance, from the Latin American University of Sciences and Technology (ULACIT); a master’s degree in Construction Project Administration, from the Technological University of Panama (UTP); and an executive master’s degree in Business Administration from Duke University (United States).

In addition, he has participated in initiatives such as the discussion of the public-private partnership law, the money laundering law and the project that modified the standard and regulation of horizontal property.
